D is for Disney: where dreams come true

Some of your comments on my last post really hit home for me: how can we find excitement and inspiration throughout the daily grind? What is it that fulfils us, over and above our tactical goals? Thank you for your honesty in sharing your experiences.

Today, as I faced a typical tricky work situation, I asked myself the question – what would a child do now? Or, put another way, if I was still a wide-eyed and optimistic young thing, what would I want here and how would I view or approach this challenge? Amazing. A totally new perspective.

When I was young, Disney provided an endless source of magic, inspiration and dreams for me. Some of those dreams have come true over the years, whereas others have altered slightly. But the fact that I had dreams to strive for kept me fresh and hopeful.

Now, when I interact with Disney as an adult, I’m astounded by the positive flood of glowing nostalgia that washes over me like a wave of wonderful sentiment, positive innocence and total lack of bias or judgement.

Why does that matter?

Because, when I’m able to adopt the Disney mindset at work or home, I’m able to regress to a simpler world where you look for the good in everything. And in my experience, there’s always good to find, even if it’s a tiny nugget that needs to be cherished and nurtured to help it grow.

So, my lasting prompt for today is: What’s your Disney? What’s the thing that pushes you to positivity? That drives you to feel happiness, hope and harmony?

And if you can find it, how can you use it to help you get value from every second of every day?

  1. My Disney comes from the tiny goosebumps I get from alot of small things like: hearing a great song for the first time, smelling newly cooked coffee or fresh baked bread, the smell of my garden after it rains, seeing a perfect rainbow...the list goes on forever, but I think you know what I mean. It is the little things that give the greatest value.

  2. I love this :) DisneyLand is totally my happy place, no matter what anyone else says about it. I just think of the Pirates ride and it makes me happy!

  3. I go to Disney every year (chaperoning a senior class trip) and always feel its magic! It never gets old.

My daily Disney is my writing. I love being with my imaginary friends. They make me feel young.
